Kubrick. He didn’t make that many films, but he surely focused on the ones he did. His sets were so detailed, military members were concerned he had somehow stolen top secret information.
Based on the US nuclear defense policies, Doctor Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb – ruffled a few feathers, being released in the midst of the cold war. From what I’ve researched, it may have started out as a serious film, but Kubrick realized the war policies were so absurd, it morphed into comedic satire. Perfect.
