Grab your notepads and thinking caps, it’s time to watch one of my favorite flicks. You definitely need to watch more than once to fully appreciate it, but this is a rare gem that actually lives up to the category of smart film.
IMO, other works of fiction have attempted to be intelligent, but actually are a vat of philosophy soup, as if they’re throwing everything at the wall, in hopes someone will think the director is a genius. Yes, I’m going to name names. Lost (series), The Matrix Revolutions, Inception. Yes, even if your friend at work thinks you’re just too dumb to get them. You can say Derek gave you permission to call no clothes on that emperor.
In contrast, this one is going to be a treat. It delivers setup and payoff, but backwards! The timeline of the movie is made up of puzzle piece scenes, which basically are in reverse order. It’s pretty fun rewatching and forming your own mental Conspiracy Charlie Chart.
