I’m very grateful for my next guests, who run the site I live stream on: Flote. With the seeming digital consensus of pro-censorship, it’s good to have a safe haven, where it’s okay to just hang out and speak freely.
When I was first starting out on Talking Trashed, several friends of mine who don’t even vote were being labeled extremists, losing pages with thousands of followers, and in one case: a personal profile with irreplaceable photos of a mother who had passed.
Whether the cause was a government intel operation, or silly overreaction by tech companies who take themselves a bit too seriously, it was a wakeup call for content creators building an audience. Deplatforming can go from shadow bans, to losing contact with followers, demonitization, and even your domain registrar bailing on you!
Erin and Kingsley, CCO and CEO of Flote, have put a lot of thought in to withstanding cancel culture. It doesn’t take much study of history to see where the path of censorship goes. (It’s not good.) Free speech is a fitting hill to die on, and this is why Flote is the perfect place to give the finger to companies that treat us like children, being too weak to see information, and decide for ourselves.
Did you know people can have conversations IRL, in their own homes, or out at the fire pit, without the NSA tuning in? Apparently the possibility of free thinking, unmonitored citizens freaks someone out. Not anyone on Saturday’s episode of Talking Trashed though!
We’ll have plenty to discuss. Here’s the link where you can tune in, 9:30 Eastern. Consider setting up notifications, to be alerted when the show is live. See you there.
