As the upcoming weekend includes July 4th, I’ll be doing a bonus stream of Flight of the Navigator prior to the start of Talking Trashed. I typically watch the film this time of year, and thought you may want to join in also.

A cute practical effects shipmate
This is a pretty good kids version of Sci-Fi, which holds up very well, IMO. It’s fun when a movie I loved as a kid doesn’t fall flat by today’s standards. Flight of the Navigator is a good example of how even cheesy looking effects are forgivable, as long as there’s an interesting story with relatable characters.
The tone is pretty light, which thankfully is becoming more common for the science fiction genre. (Think Rick and Morty, Family Guy, and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, but more kid appropriate.)
